The Life of Jesus
The eternal Son of God enters history: born in Bethlehem, baptized in the Jordan, crucified at Golgotha, raised on the third day.
- John 15:21c. AD 33
But they will do all this to you on my account, because they don’t know the One who sent me.
- John 15:22c. AD 33
“If I had not come and spoken to them, they wouldn’t be guilty of sin; but now, they have no excuse for their sin.
- John 15:23c. AD 33
Whoever hates me hates my Father also.
- John 15:24c. AD 33
If I had not done in their presence works which no one else ever did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now, they have seen them and have hated both me and my Father.
- John 15:25c. AD 33
But this has happened in order to fulfill the words in their Torah which read, ‘They hated me for no reason at all.’
- John 15:26c. AD 33
“When the Counselor comes, whom I will send you from the Father — the Spirit of Truth, who keeps going out from the Father — he will testify on my behalf.
- John 15:27c. AD 33
And you testify too, because you have been with me from the outset.
- John 16:1c. AD 33
“I have told you these things so that you won’t be caught by surprise.
- John 16:2c. AD 33
They will ban you from the synagogue; in fact, the time will come when anyone who kills you will think he is serving God!
- John 16:3c. AD 33
They will do these things because they have understood neither the Father nor me.
- John 16:4c. AD 33
But I have told you this, so that when the time comes for it to happen, you will remember that I told you. I didn’t tell you this at first, because I was with you.
- John 16:5c. AD 33
But now I am going to the One who sent me. “Not one of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’
- John 16:6c. AD 33
Instead, because I have said these things to you, you are overcome with grief.
- John 16:7c. AD 33
But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the comforting Counselor will not come to you. However, if I do go, I will send him to you.
- John 16:8c. AD 33
“When he comes, he will show that the world is wrong about sin, about righteousness and about judgment —
- John 16:9c. AD 33
about sin, in that people don’t put their trust in me;
- John 16:10c. AD 33
about righteousness, in that I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;
- John 16:11c. AD 33
about judgment, in that the ruler of this world has been judged.
- John 16:12c. AD 33
“I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.
- John 16:13c. AD 33
However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own initiative but will say only what he hears. He will also announce to you the events of the future.
- John 16:14c. AD 33
He will glorify me, because he will receive from what is mine and announce it to you.
- John 16:15c. AD 33
Everything the Father has is mine; this is why I said that he receives from what is mine and will announce it to you.
- John 16:16c. AD 33
“In a little while, you will see me no more; then, a little while later, you will see me.”
- John 16:17c. AD 33
At this, some of the talmidim said to one another, “What is this that he’s telling us, ‘In a little while, you won’t see me; then, a little while later, you will see me’? and, ‘I am going to the Father’?”
- John 16:18c. AD 33
They went on saying, “What is this ‘little while’? We don’t understand what he’s talking about.”
