The Life of Jesus
The eternal Son of God enters history: born in Bethlehem, baptized in the Jordan, crucified at Golgotha, raised on the third day.
- John 16:19c. AD 33
Yeshua knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Are you asking each other what I meant by saying, ‘In a little while, you won’t see me; and then, a little while later, you will see me’?
- John 16:20c. AD 33
Yes, it’s true. I tell you that you will sob and mourn, and the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.
- John 16:21c. AD 33
When a woman is giving birth, she is in pain; because her time has come. But when the baby is born, she forgets her suffering out of joy that a child has come into the world.
- John 16:22c. AD 33
So you do indeed feel grief now, but I am going to see you again. Then your hearts will be full of joy, and no one will take your joy away from you.
- John 16:23c. AD 33
“When that day comes, you won’t ask anything of me! Yes, indeed! I tell you that whatever you ask from the Father, he will give you in my name.
- John 16:24c. AD 33
Till now you haven’t asked for anything in my name. Keep asking, and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
- John 16:25c. AD 33
“I have said these things to you with the help of illustrations; however, a time is coming when I will no longer speak indirectly but will talk about the Father in plain language.
- John 16:26c. AD 33
When that day comes, you will ask in my name. I am not telling you that I will pray to the Father on your behalf,
- John 16:27c. AD 33
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
- John 16:28c. AD 33
“I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and returning to the Father.”
- John 16:29c. AD 33
The talmidim said to him, “Look, you’re talking plainly right now, you’re not speaking indirectly at all.
- John 16:30c. AD 33
Now we know that you know everything, and that you don’t need to have people put their questions into words. This makes us believe that you came from God.”
- John 16:31c. AD 33
Yeshua answered, “Now you do believe.
- John 16:32c. AD 33
But a time is coming — indeed it has come already — when you will be scattered, each one looking out for himself; and you will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone; because the Father is with me.
- John 16:33c. AD 33
“I have said these things to you so that, united with me, you may have shalom. In the world, you have tsuris. But be brave! I have conquered the world!”
- John 17:1c. AD 33
After Yeshua had said these things, he looked up toward heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son may glorify you —
- John 17:2c. AD 33
just as you gave him authority over all mankind, so that he might give eternal life to all those whom you have given him.
- John 17:3c. AD 33
And eternal life is this: to know you, the one true God, and him whom you sent, Yeshua the Messiah.
- John 17:4c. AD 33
“I glorified you on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.
- John 17:5c. AD 33
Now, Father, glorify me alongside yourself. Give me the same glory I had with you before the world existed.
- John 17:6c. AD 33
“I made your name known to the people you gave me out of the world. They were yours, you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
- John 17:7c. AD 33
Now they know that everything you have given me is from you,
- John 17:8c. AD 33
because the words you gave me I have given to them, and they have received them. They have really come to know that I came from you, and they have come to trust that you sent me.
- John 17:9c. AD 33
“I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given to me, because they are yours.
- John 17:10c. AD 33
Indeed, all I have is yours, and all you have is mine, and in them I have been glorified.
