  1. For Herod had taken Iohn, and bounde him, and put him in prison for Herodias sake, his brother Philips wife.

  2. For Iohn saide vnto him, It is not lawfull for thee to haue her.

  3. And when hee woulde haue put him to death, hee feared the multitude, because they counted him as a Prophet.

  4. But when Herods birth day was kept, the daughter of Herodias daunced before them, and pleased Herod.

  8. And sent, and beheaded Iohn in the prison.

  9. And his head was brought in a platter, and giuen to the maide, and shee brought it vnto her mother.

  10. And his disciples came, and tooke vp the bodie, and buried it, and went, and tolde Iesus.

  11. And whosoeuer sweareth by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offering that is vpon it, offendeth.

  12. Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the offering, or the altar which sanctifieth the offering?

  13. Whosoeuer therefore sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

  14. And whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

  15. And he that sweareth by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

  16. But Iesus helde his peace. Then the chiefe Priest answered, and saide to him, I charge thee sweare vnto vs by the liuing God, to tell vs, If thou be that Christ the Sonne of God, or no.

  17. Then the King was very sory: yet for his othes sake, and for their sakes which sate at table with him, he would not refuse her.

  18. And the othe which he sware to our father Abraham.

  19. And when the day was come, certaine of the Iewes made an assemblie, and bounde themselues with a curse, saying, that they woulde neither eate nor drinke, till they had killed Paul.

  20. And they were more then fourtie, which had made this conspiracie.

  21. And they came to the chiefe Priestes and Elders, and said, We haue bound our selues with a solemne curse, that wee will eate nothing, vntill we haue slaine Paul.

  22. Nowe, I call God for a recorde vnto my soule, that to spare you, I came not as yet vnto Corinthus.

  23. Nowe the things which I write vnto you, beholde, I witnes before God, that I lie not.

  24. Therefore I sware in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest.

  25. And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but vnto them that obeyed not?
