  1. Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

  8. In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.

  9. ¶ For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

  10. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

  11. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

  12. And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

  13. And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

  14. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

  15. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

  16. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

  17. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

  18. Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

  19. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:

  20. And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

  21. And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

  22. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

  23. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

  24. Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.

  25. Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
