  13. And we took all his cities at that time, killing the inhabitants of them, men and women and children. We left nothing of them:

  14. And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sehon the king of Hesebon, destroying every city, men and women and children:

  15. And when the Lord thy God shall deliver it into thy hands, thou shalt slay all that are therein of the male sex, with the edge of the sword,

  16. Excepting women and children, cattle and other things, that are in the city. And thou shalt divide all the prey to the army, and thou shalt eat the spoils of thy enemies, which the Lord thy God shall give thee.

  17. So shalt thou do to all cities that are at a great distance from thee, and are not of these cities which thou shalt receive in possession.

  18. But of those cities that shall be given thee, thou shalt suffer none at all to live:

  19. But shalt kill them with the edge of the sword, to wit, the Hethite, and the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:

  20. Lest they teach you to do all the abominations which they have done to their gods: and you should sin against the Lord your God.

  21. And killed all that were in it, man and woman, young and old. The oxen also, and the sheep, and the asses, they slew with the edge of the sword.

  22. But they burned the city, and all things that were therein; except the gold and silver, and vessels of brass and iron, which they consecrated unto the treasury of the Lord. _

  23. So all being slain that had pursued after Israel, in his flight to the wilderness, and falling by the sword in the same place, the children of Israel returned and laid waste the city.

  24. And the number of them that fell that day, both of men and women, was twelve thousand persons, all of the city of Hai.

  25. He was exceedingly afraid. For Gabaon was a great city, and one of the royal cities, and greater than the town of Hai, and all its fighting men were most valiant.
