  1. This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

  2. male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

  3. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the heavens; with all wherewith the ground teemeth, and all the fishes of the sea, into your hand are they delivered.

  4. Every moving thing that liveth shall be food for you; as the green herb have I given you all.

  5. Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; And his angels he chargeth with folly:

  6. How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth!

  7. Betwixt morning and evening they are destroyed: They perish for ever without any regarding it.

  8. Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.

  9. I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; Show me wherefore thou contendest with me.

  10. Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, That thou shouldest despise the work of thy hands, And shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

  11. Thy hands have framed me and fashioned me Together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.

  12. Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast fashioned me as clay; And wilt thou bring me into dust again?

  13. Hast thou not poured me out as milk, And curdled me like cheese?

  14. Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, And knit me together with bones and sinews.

  15. Can a man be profitable unto God? Surely he that is wise is profitable unto himself.

  16. Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? Or is it gainto him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

  17. Is it for thy fear of him that he reproveth thee, That he entereth with thee into judgment?

  18. Is not thy wickedness great? Neither is there any end to thine iniquities.

  19. How then can man be just with God? Or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

  20. Behold, even the moon hath no brightness, And the stars are not pure in his sight:

  21. How much less man, that is a worm! And the son of man, that is a worm!

  22. Thinkest thou this to be thy right, Or sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God’s,

  23. That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee? And, What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?

  24. I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.

  25. Look unto the heavens, and see; And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.
