  1. They open their mouths against me and strike my cheeks with contempt; they join together against me.

  13. And yet He was compassionate; He forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them. He often restrained His anger and did not unleash His full wrath.

  14. He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.

  15. You fed them with the bread of tears and made them drink the full measure of their tears.

  16. If his sons forsake My law and do not walk in My judgments,

  17. if they violate My statutes and fail to keep My commandments,

  18. I will attend to their transgression with the rod, and to their iniquity with stripes.

  19. He will not always accuse us, nor harbor His anger forever.

  20. He has not dealt with us according to our sins or repaid us according to our iniquities.

  21. Many times He rescued them, but they were bent on rebellion and sank down in their iniquity.

  22. Nevertheless He heard their cry; He took note of their distress.

  23. And He remembered His covenant with them, and relented by the abundance of His loving devotion.

  24. He made them objects of compassion to all who held them captive.

  25. I know, O LORD, that Your judgments are righteous, and that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
