  1. O Israel, returne vnto the Lord thy God: for thou hast fallen by thine iniquitie.

  2. Therefore also now the Lord sayth, Turne you vnto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning,

  3. Let the Priestes, the ministers of the Lord weepe betweene the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and giue not thine heritage into reproche that the heathen should rule ouer them. Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

  4. Thus saith the Lord, For three transgressions of Iudah, and for foure, I will not turne to it, because they haue cast away the Lawe of the Lord, and haue not kept his commandementes, and their lies caused them to erre after the which their fathers haue walked.

  5. Heare this worde that the Lord pronounceth against you, O children of Israel, euen against the whole familie which I brought vp from the land of Egypt, saying,

  6. You onely haue I knowen of all the families of the earth: therefore I will visite you for all your iniquities.

  7. I hate and abhorre your feast dayes, and I wil not smelll in your solemne assemblies.

  8. Though ye offer me burnt offrings and meat offrings, I wil not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offrings of your fat beasts.

  9. Beholde, the dayes come, sayeth the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the lande, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the word of the Lord.

  10. Arise, and goe to Nineueh, that great citie, and crye against it: for their wickednesse is come vp before mee.

  11. So the people of Nineueh beleeued God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from ye greatest of the euen to the least of them.

  12. And God sawe their workes that they turned from their euill wayes: and God repented of the euill that he had said that he woulde doe vnto them, and he did it not.

  13. Arise and depart, for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, euen with a sore destruction.

  14. O bloody citie, it is all full of lyes, and robberie: the pray departeth not:

  15. Then sayde Haggai, If a polluted person touch any of these, shall it be vncleane? And the Priests answered, and sayd, It shalbe vncleane.

  16. Woe be to thee, Chorazin: Woe be to thee, Bethsaida: for if ye great workes, which were done in you, had bene done in Tyrus and Sidon, they had repented long agone in sackecloth and ashes.

  17. But I say to you, It shalbe easier for Tyrus and Sidon at the day of iudgement, then for you.

  18. And thou, Capernaum, which art lifted vp vnto heauen, shalt be brought downe to hell: for if the great workes, which haue bin done in thee, had bene done among them of Sodom, they had remained to this day.

  19. But I say vnto you, that it shall be easier for them of the land of Sodom in the day of iudgement, then for thee.

  20. That vpon you may come all the righteous blood that was shed vpon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, vnto the blood of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whome ye slewe betweene the Temple and the altar.

  21. Verely I say vnto you, all these things shall come vpon this generation.

  22. Hierusalem, Hierusalem, which killest the Prophets, and stonest them which are sent to thee, how often would I haue gathered thy children together, as the henne gathereth her chickins vnder her wings, and ye would not!

  23. Beholde, your habitation shalbe left vnto you desolate,

  24. For I say vnto you, ye shall not see mee henceforth till that ye say, Blessed is he that commeth in the Name of the Lord.

  25. Then answered all the people, and saide, His bloud be on vs, and on our children.
