  1. Bring your confessions and return to the LORD. Say to Him: “Take away all our iniquity and receive us graciously, that we may present the fruit of our lips.

  2. “Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.”

  3. Let the priests who minister before the LORD weep between the portico and the altar, saying, “Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not make Your heritage a reproach, an object of scorn among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”

  8. Even though you offer Me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; for your peace offerings of fattened cattle I will have no regard.

  9. Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.

  10. “Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before Me.”

  11. And the Ninevites believed God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.

  12. When God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—He relented from the disaster He had threatened to bring upon them.

  13. Arise and depart, for this is not your place of rest, because its defilement brings destruction— a grievous destruction!

  14. Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without prey.

  15. Then Haggai replied, “So it is with this people and this nation before Me, declares the LORD, and so it is with every work of their hands; whatever they offer there is defiled.

  16. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

  17. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

  18. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

  19. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

  20. And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

  21. Truly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.

  22. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!

  23. Look, your house is left to you desolate.

  24. For I tell you that you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

  25. All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”
