  1. For he is our God, and we are the people in his pasture, the sheep in his care. If only today you would listen to his voice:

  2. "Don't harden your hearts, as you did at M'rivah, as you did on that day at Massah in the desert,

  3. For their sakes he kept in mind his covenant and in his limitless grace relented,

  10. but instead you neglected my counsel and would not accept my reproof;

  11. I, in turn, will laugh at your distress, and mock when terror comes over you

  12. yes, when terror overtakes you like a storm and your disaster approaches like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble assail you.

  13. Then they will call me, but I won't answer; they will seek me earnestly, but they won't find me.

  14. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of ADONAI,

  15. they refused my counsel and despised my reproof.

  16. So they will bear the consequences of their own way and be overfilled with their own schemes.

  17. For the aimless wandering of the thoughtless will kill them, and the smug overconfidence of fools will destroy them;

  18. but those who pay attention to me will live securely, untroubled by fear of misfortune."

  19. Don't stay unsure of yourself, but live! Walk in the way of understanding!"

  20. Don't boast about tomorrow, for you don't know what the day may bring.

  21. He who conceals his sins will not succeed; he who confesses and abandons them will gain mercy.

  22. "Wash yourselves clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing evil,

  23. learn to do good! Seek justice, relieve the oppressed, defend orphans, plead for the widow.

  24. A remnant will return, the remnant of Ya'akov, to the mighty God.

  25. That day Adonai ELOHIM-Tzva'ot called on you to weep and mourn, to shave your heads and wear sackcloth;
