  1. And a certaine woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the citie of the Thyatirians, which worshipped God, heard vs: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended vnto the things, which Paul spake.

  2. And when she was baptized, and her houshold, she besought vs, saying, If ye haue iudged me to be faithfull to ye Lord, come into mine house, and abide there: and she constrained vs.

  3. And some of them beleeued, and ioyned in companie with Paul and Silas: also of the Grecians that feared God a great multitude, and of the chiefe women not a fewe.

  4. Therefore many of them beleeued, and of honest women, which were Grecians, and men not a fewe.

  5. Howbeit certaine men claue vnto Paul, and beleeued: among whome was also Denys Areopagita, and a woman named Damaris, and other with them.

  6. For this cause God gaue them vp vnto vile affections: for euen their women did change the naturall vse into that which is against nature.

  7. But I wil that ye know, that Christ is the head of euery man: and the man is the womans head: and God is Christs head.

  8. Euery man praying or prophecying hauing any thing on his head, dishonoureth his head.

  9. But euery woman that prayeth or prophecieth bare headed, dishonoureth her head: for it is euen one very thing, as though she were shauen.

  10. Therefore if the woman be not couered, let her also be shorne: and if it be shame for a woman to be shorne or shauen, let her be couered.

  11. For a man ought not to couer his head: for as much as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

  12. For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man.

  13. For the man was not created for the womans sake: but the woman for the mans sake.

  14. Therefore ought the woman to haue power on her head, because of the Angels.

  15. Neuertheles, neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man in the Lord.

  16. For as the woman is of the man, so is the man also by the woman: but all things are of God.

  17. Iudge in your selues, Is it comely that a woman pray vnto God vncouered?

  18. Doeth not nature it selfe teach you, that if a man haue long heare, it is a shame vnto him?

  19. But if a woman haue long heare, it is a prayse vnto her: for her heare is giuen her for a couering.

  20. Let your women keepe silence in the Churches: for it is not permitted vnto them to speake: but they ought to be subiect, as also the Lawe sayth.

  21. And if they will learne any thing, let them aske their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speake in the Church.

  22. But I feare least as the serpent beguiled Eue through his subtiltie, so your mindes shoulde be corrupt from the simplicitie that is in Christ.

  23. Likewise also the women, that they aray themselues in comely apparell, with shamefastnes and modestie, not with broyded heare, or gold, or pearles, or costly apparell,

  24. But (as becommeth women that professe the feare of God) with good workes.

  25. Let the woman learne in silence with all subiection.
