  1. Till a dart strike through his liuer, as a bird hasteth to the snare, not knowing that he is in danger.

  2. A foolish woman is troublesome: she is ignorant, and knoweth nothing.

  3. But she sitteth at the doore of her house on a seate in the hie places of the citie,

  4. To call them that passe by the way, that go right on their way, saying,

  5. Who so is simple, let him come hither, and to him that is destitute of wisedome, shee sayth also,

  6. Stollen waters are sweete, and hid bread is pleasant.

  7. But he knoweth not, that ye dead are there, and that her ghestes are in the depth of hell.

  8. The mouth of strage women is as a deepe pit: he with whom the Lord is angry, shall fall therein.

  9. For a whore is as a deepe ditche, and a strange woman is as a narrowe pitte.

  10. Also she lyeth in wait as for a praye, and she increaseth the transgressers among men.

  11. A man that loueth wisdome, reioyceth his father: but he that feedeth harlots, wasteth his substance.

  12. There be three thinges hid from me: yea, foure that I knowe not,

  13. The way of an eagle in the aire, the way of a serpent vpon a stone, ye way of a ship in ye middes of the sea, and the way of a man with a maide.

  14. Such is ye way also of an adulterous woman: she eateth and wipeth her mouth, and sayth, I haue not committed iniquitie.

  15. Giue not thy strength vnto women, nor thy wayes, which is to destroy Kings.

  16. But you witches children, come hither, the seede of the adulterer and of the whore.

  17. On whome haue ye iested? vpon whome haue ye gaped and thrust out your tongue? are not ye rebellious children, and a false seede?

  18. They say, If a man put away his wife, and she goe from him, and become another mans, shall hee returne againe vnto her? shall not this land be polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many louers: yet turne againe to mee, sayeth the Lord.

  19. Howe should I spare thee for this? thy children haue forsaken me, and sworne by them that are no gods: though I fed them to the full, yet they committed adulterie, and assembled them selues by companies in the harlots houses.

  20. They rose vp in the morning like fed horses: for euery man neyed after his neighbours wife.

  21. Will you steale, murder, and commit adulterie, and sweare falsely and burne incense vnto Baal, and walke after other gods whome yee knowe not?

  22. And come and stande before mee in this House, whereupon my Name is called, and saye, We are deliuered, though we haue done all these abominations?

  23. For the lande is full of adulterers, and because of othes the lande mourneth, the pleasant places of the wildernesse are dried vp, and their course is euill, and their force is not right.

  24. And al they of the captiuitie of Iudah, that are in Babel, shall take vp this curse against them, and say, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whome the King of Babel burnt in the fire,

  25. Because they haue committed vilenie in Israel, and haue committed adulterie with their neighbours wiues, and haue spoken lying words in my Name, which I haue not commanded them, euen I knowe it, and testifie it, saith the Lord.
