  12. “There are three things which are too amazing for me, four which I don’t understand:

  13. The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent on a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maiden.

  14. “So is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, ‘I have done nothing wrong.’

  15. Don’t give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.

  16. “But draw near here, you sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the prostitute.

  17. Against whom do you sport yourselves? Against whom do you make a wide mouth, and stick out your tongue? Aren’t you children of disobedience, a seed of falsehood,

  18. “They say, ‘If a man puts away his wife, and she goes from him, and become another man’s, will he return to her again?’ Wouldn’t that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the prostitute with many lovers; yet return again to me,” says the LORD.

  19. “How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by what are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes’ houses.

  20. They were as fed horses roaming at large: everyone neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

  21. Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,

  22. and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, ‛We are delivered;’ that you may do all these abominations?

  23. For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourns; the pastures of the wilderness are dried up. Their course is evil, and their might is not right;

  24. and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, the LORD make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

  25. because they have worked folly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I didn’t command them; and I am he who knows, and am witness, says the LORD.
