Bible Verses About Pride

¶ Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.

¶ The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart.

Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law.

¶ Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.

A gradual canticle. O Lord, remember David, and all his meekness.

Thy knowledge is become wonderful to me: it is high, and I cannot reach to it.

He shall scorn the scorners, and to the meek he will give grace.

Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:

Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

I, wisdom, dwell in counsel, and am present in learned thoughts.

The fear of the Lord hateth evil; I hate arrogance, and pride, and every wicked way, and a mouth with a double tongue.

The way of life, to him that observeth correction: but he that forsaketh reproofs, goeth astray.

Where pride is, there also shall be reproach: but where humility is, there also is wisdom.

He that despiseth his friend, is mean of heart: but the wise man will hold his peace.

Better is the poor man that provideth for himself, than he that is glorious and wanteth bread.

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsels.

Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.

He that despiseth his neighbour, sinneth: but he that sheweth mercy to the poor, shall be blessed. He that believeth in the Lord, loveth mercy.

A fool laugheth at the instruction of his father: but he that regardeth reproofs shall become prudent. In abundant justice there is the greatest strength: but the devices of the wicked shall be rooted out.

Instruction is grievous to him that forsaketh the way of life: he that hateth reproof shall die.

A corrupt man loveth not one that reproveth him: nor will he go to the wise.

The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: and will strengthen the borders of the widow.

He that rejecteth instruction, despiseth his own soul: but he that yieldeth to reproof, possesseth understanding.

Every proud man is an abomination to the Lord: though hand should be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice: and this is more acceptable with God, than to offer sacrifices.

Pride goeth before destruction: and the spirit is lifted up before a fall.
