  1. And he named the second Ephraim, saying: God hath made me to grow in the land of my poverty.

  2. And sons were born to Joseph, in the land of Egypt, whom Aseneth, the daughter of Putiphare, priest of Heliopolis, bore him: Manasses and Ephraim.

  7. And Joseph seeing that his father had put his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, was much displeased: and taking his father's hand, he tried to lift it from Ephraim's head, and to remove it to the head of Manasses.

  8. And he blessed them at that time, saying: In thee shall Israel be blessed, and it shall be said: God do to thee as to Ephraim, and as to Manasses. And he set Ephraim before Manasses.

  9. After which he told his brethren: God will visit you after my death, and will make you go up out of this land, to the land which he swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  10. And of the sons of Joseph: of Ephraim, Elisama the son of Ammiud: of Manasses, Gamaliel the son of Phadassur.

  11. Of the sons of Joseph, namely, of the sons of Ephraim, by the generations and families and houses of their kindreds, were reckoned up by the names of every one, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war,

  12. Forty thousand five hundred.

  13. On the west side shall be the camp of the sons of Ephraim, whose prince was Elisama the son of Ammiud.

  14. All that were numbered in the camp of Ephraim, were a hundred and eight-thousand one hundred by their troops: they shall march in the third place.

  15. The seventh day the prince of the sons of Ephraim, Elisama the son of Ammiud,

  16. The sons of Ephraim also moved their camp by their troops, in whose army the prince was Elisama the son of Ammiud.

  17. Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

  18. The sons of Joseph by their kindred, Manasses and Ephraim.

  19. And the sons of Ephraim by their kindreds were these: Suthala, of whom is the family of the Suthalaites: Becher, of whom is the family of the Becherites: Thehen, of whom is the family of the Thehenites.

  20. These are the kindreds of the sons of Ephraim: whose number was thirty-two thousand five hundred.

  21. Of the tribe of Ephraim, Camuel the son of Sephtan.

  22. His beauty as of the firstling of a bullock, his horns as the horns of a rhinoceros: with them shall he push the nations even to the ends of the earth. These are the multitudes of Ephraim and these the thousands of Manasses.

  23. And all Nephtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasses, and all the land of Juda unto the furthermost sea,

  24. But in their place succeeded the children of Joseph divided into two tribes, of Manasses and Ephraim: neither did the Levites receive other portion of land, but cities to dwell in, and their suburbs to feed their beasts and flocks.

  25. And Manasses and Ephraim the children of Joseph possessed it.
