  1. And Cain said to Abel his brother: Let us go forth abroad. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and slew him.

  2. And the king said to Doeg: Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg, the Edomite, turned, and fell upon the priests, and slew in that day eighty-five men that wore the linen ephod.

  7. And they brought Urias out of Egypt: and brought him to king Joakim, and he slew him with the sword: and he cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

  8. The brother also shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the son; and the children shall rise up against their parents, and shall put them to death.

  9. And you shall be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved.

  10. And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell.

  11. He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it.

  12. Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

  13. For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it.

  14. Therefore behold I send to you prophets and wise men and scribes: and some of them you will put to death and crucify: and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city.

  15. That upon you may come all the just blood that hath been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just, even unto the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.

  16. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted and shall put you to death: and you shall be hated by all nations for my name's sake.

  17. But sending an executioner, he commanded that his head should be brought in a dish.

  18. And the brother shall betray his brother unto death, and the father his son; and children shall rise up against their parents and shall work their death.

  19. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: for he that shall lose his life for my sake shall save it.

  20. That the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,

  21. From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who was slain between the altar and the temple. Yea I say to you: It shall be required of this generation.

  22. And you shall be betrayed by your parents and brethren and kinsmen and friends: and some of you they will put to death.

  23. And you shall be hated by all men for my name's sake.

  24. Itself remaineth alone. But if it die it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it and he that hateth his life in this world keepeth it unto life eternal.

  25. They will put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doth a service to God.
