  1. But whatsoever cheweth indeed the cud, and hath a hoof, but divideth it not, as the camel, and others: that you shall not eat, but shall reckon it among the unclean.

  10. Forthwith the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel standing in the way with a drawn sword, and he worshipped him falling flat on the ground.

  11. And the angel said to him: Why beatest thou thy ass these three times? I am come to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse, and contrary to me:

  12. Who hath sent out the wild ass free, and who hath loosed his bonds?

  13. To whom I have given a house in the wilderness, and his dwellings in the barren land.

  14. He scorneth the multitude of the city, he heareth not the cry of the driver.

  15. He looketh round about the mountains of his pasture, and seeketh for every green thing.

  16. Wilt thou give strength to the horse or clothe his neck with neighing?

  17. Wilt thou lift him up like the locusts? the glory of his nostrils is terror.

  18. He breaketh up the earth with his hoof, he pranceth boldly, he goeth forward to meet armed men.

  19. He despiseth fear, he turneth not his back to the sword.

  20. Above him shall the quiver rattle, the spear and shield shall glitter.

  21. Chasing and raging he swalloweth the ground, neither doth he make account when the noise of the trumpet soundeth.

  22. When he heareth the trumpet he saith: Ha, ha: he smelleth the battle afar off, the encouraging of the captains, and the shouting of the army.

  23. If I should be hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.

  24. Shall I eat the flesh of bullocks? or shall I drink the blood of goats?

  25. Offer to God the sacrifice of praise: and pay thy vows to the most High.
