  1. Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that part the hoof: the camel, because he cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, he is unclean unto you.

  10. Then Jehovah opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of Jehovah standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.

  11. And the angel of Jehovah said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I am come forth for an adversary, because thy way is perverse before me:

  12. Who hath sent out the wild ass free? Or who hath loosed the bonds of the swift ass,

  13. Whose home I have made the wilderness, And the salt land his dwelling-place?

  14. He scorneth the tumult of the city, Neither heareth he the shoutings of the driver.

  15. The range of the mountains is his pasture, And he searcheth after every green thing.

  16. Hast thou given the horsehismight? Hast thou clothed his neck with the quivering mane?

  17. Hast thou made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is terrible.

  18. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: He goeth out to meet the armed men.

  19. He mocketh at fear, and is not dismayed; Neither turneth he back from the sword.

  20. The quiver rattleth against him, The flashing spear and the javelin.

  21. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage; Neither believeth he that it is the voice of the trumpet.

  22. As oft as the trumpetsoundethhe saith, Aha! And he smelleth the battle afar off, The thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

  23. But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.
