  1. And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David, his father; and Roboam, his son, reigned in his stead.

  8. And Roboam came to Jerusalem, and gathered together all the house of Juda, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred fourscore thousand chosen men for war, to fight against the house of Israel, and to bring the kingdom again under Roboam, the son of Solomon.

  9. Speak to Roboam, the son of Solomon, the king of Juda, and to all the house of Juda, and Benjamin, and the rest of the people, saying:

  10. If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem: and the heart of this people will turn to their lord Roboam, the king of Juda, and they will kill me, and return to him.

  11. And Roboam, the son of Solomon, reigned in Juda: Roboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naama, an Ammonitess.

  12. And in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Sesac, king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem.

  13. And Roboam made shields of brass instead of them, and delivered them into the hand of the captains of the shieldbearers, and of them that kept watch before the gate of the king's house.

  14. Now the rest of the acts of Roboam, and all that he did, behold they are written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda.

  15. And there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam always.

  16. And Roboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with them, in the city of David: and his mother's name was Naama, an Ammonitess: and Abiam, his son, reigned in his stead.

  17. But there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all the time of his life.

  18. And Solomon's son was Roboam: whose son Abia begot Asa. And his son was Josaphat,

  19. And he slept with his fathers: and they buried him in the city of David: and Roboam his son reigned in his stead.

  20. And Roboam went to Sichem: for thither all Israel were assembled, to make him king.

  21. And they sent for him, and he came with all Israel, and they spoke to Roboam, saying:

  22. He took counsel with the ancients, who had stood before his father Solomon, while he yet lived, saying: What counsel give you to me, that I may answer the people?

  23. So Jeroboam, and all the people came to Roboam the third day, as he commanded them.

  24. And the king answered roughly, leaving the counsel of the ancients.

  25. But Roboam reigned over the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Juda.
