  1. This is why it says: “When He ascended on high, He led captives away, and gave gifts to men.”

  2. From Him the whole body, fitted and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love through the work of each individual part.

  10. And having been buried with Him in baptism, you were raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.

  11. When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses,

  12. Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices,

  13. and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

  14. But we should always thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning to be saved by the sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth.

  15. He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

  16. This is the Spirit He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

  17. Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it.

  18. For we also received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, since they did not share the faith of those who comprehended it.

  19. Now we who have believed enter that rest. As for the others, it is just as God has said: “So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’” And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world.

  20. For somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: “And on the seventh day God rested from all His works.”

  21. And again, as He says in the passage above: “They shall never enter My rest.”

  22. Since, then, it remains for some to enter His rest, and since those who formerly heard the good news did not enter because of their disobedience,

  23. God again designated a certain day as “Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was just stated: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”

  24. For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.

  25. There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
