and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.

From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;

and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.

These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.

Then Amaziah gathered the people of Judah and assigned them according to their families to commanders of thousands and of hundreds. And he numbered those twenty years of age or older throughout Judah and Benjamin and found 300,000 chosen men able to serve in the army, bearing the spear and shield.

The total number of family leaders of the mighty men of valor was 2,600.

Under their authority was an army of 307,500 trained for war, a powerful force to support the king against his enemies.

Uzziah supplied the entire army with shields, spears, helmets, armor, bows, and slingstones.

And in Jerusalem he made skillfully designed devices to shoot arrows and catapult large stones from the towers and corners. So his fame spread far and wide, for he was helped tremendously so that he became powerful.

O God, be not silent; be not speechless; be not still, O God.

See how Your enemies rage, how Your foes have reared their heads.

With cunning they scheme against Your people and conspire against those You cherish,

saying, “Come, let us erase them as a nation; may the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You—

Even Assyria has joined them, lending strength to the sons of Lot. Selah

Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

who said, “Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God.”

Now in the days that Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, Rezin king of Aram marched up to wage war against Jerusalem. He was accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel, but he could not overpower the city.
