  1. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and a fame went out concerning him through all the region round about.

  2. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,

  3. And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him.

  4. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.

  5. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for he giveth not the Spirit by measure.

  6. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

  7. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.

  8. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,

  9. even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.

  10. But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.

  11. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me:

  12. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you.

  13. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

  14. He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare it unto you.

  15. All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he taketh of mine, and shall declare it unto you.

  16. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit:

  17. until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

  18. and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye heard from me:

  19. for John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.

  20. Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.

  21. The word which he sent unto the children of Israel, preaching good tidings of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)—

  22. that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judæa, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

  23. even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

  24. concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,

  25. who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead; even Jesus Christ our Lord,
