  1. and the prudent answered, saying--Lest there may not be sufficient for us and you, go ye rather unto those selling, and buy for yourselves.

  2. `And while they are going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those ready went in with him to the marriage-feasts, and the door was shut;

  3. and afterwards come also do the rest of the virgins, saying, Sir, sir, open to us;

  4. and he answering said, Verily I say to you, I have not known you.

  5. `Watch therefore, for ye have not known the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man doth come.

  6. and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who have fallen asleep, arose,

  7. and having come forth out of the tombs after his rising, they went into the holy city, and appeared to many.

  8. And the Sadducees come unto him, who say there is not a rising again, and they questioned him, saying,

  9. `Teacher, Moses wrote to us, that if any one's brother may die, and may leave a wife, and may leave no children, that his brother may take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.

  10. `There were then seven brothers, and the first took a wife, and dying, he left no seed;

  11. and the second took her, and died, neither left he seed, and the third in like manner,

  12. and the seven took her, and left no seed, last of all died also the woman;

  13. in the rising again, then, whenever they may rise, of which of them shall she be wife--for the seven had her as wife?'

  14. And Jesus answering said to them, `Do ye not because of this go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God?

  15. for when they may rise out of the dead, they neither marry nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers who are in the heavens.

  16. `And concerning the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the Book of Moses (at The Bush), how God spake to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;

  17. he is not the God of dead men, but a God of living men; ye then go greatly astray.'

  18. and happy thou shalt be, because they have not to recompense thee, for it shall be recompensed to thee in the rising again of the righteous.'

  19. And certain of the Sadducees, who are denying that there is a rising again, having come near, questioned him,

  20. saying, `Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother may die, having a wife, and he may die childless--that his brother may take the wife, and may raise up seed to his brother.

  21. `There were, then, seven brothers, and the first having taken a wife, died childless,

  22. and the second took the wife, and he died childless,

  23. and the third took her, and in like manner also the seven--they left not children, and they died;

  24. and last of all died also the woman:

  25. in the rising again, then, of which of them doth she become wife? --for the seven had her as wife.'
