  1. The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

  2. He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;

  3. but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.

  4. Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”

  5. They came into the house and saw the young child with Miriam, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

  6. This Good News of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

  7. Go, and make disciples of all nations, immersing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

  10. and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

  11. You are witnesses of these things.

  12. Now on the next day as they were on their journey, and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.

  13. He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.

  14. He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,

  15. in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.

  16. A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”

  17. But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

  18. A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”

  19. This was done three times, and immediately the vessel was received up into heaven.

  20. Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

  21. and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.

  22. While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.

  23. But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

  24. As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.”

  25. Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
