  1. In those days, Yeshua came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed by Yochanan in the Jordan.

  2. Now after Yochanan was taken into custody, Yeshua came into Galilee, proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God,

  3. Yochanan’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and asked him, “Why do Yochanan’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast?”

  11. They told him, “Yochanan the Immerser, and others say Elijah, but others: one of the prophets.”

  12. The immersion of Yochanan—was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me.”

  14. But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah, because your request has been heard, and your wife, Elisheva, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Yochanan.

  15. His mother answered, “Not so; but he will be called Yochanan.”

  16. He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is Yochanan.” They all marveled.

  17. in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to Yochanan, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness.

  18. As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning Yochanan, whether perhaps he was the Messiah,

  19. Yochanan answered them all, “I indeed immerse you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire,

  20. added this also to them all, that he shut up Yochanan in prison.

  21. They said to him, “Why do Yochanan’s disciples often fast and pray, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?”

  22. The disciples of Yochanan told him about all these things.

  23. Yochanan, calling to himself two of his disciples, sent them to Yeshua, saying, “Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for another?”

  24. When the men had come to him, they said, “Yochanan the Immerser has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?’”

  25. Yeshua answered them, “Go and tell Yochanan the things which you have seen and heard: that the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
