  1. Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

  2. Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

  3. Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

  4. Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.

  5. LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them.

  6. ¶ Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

  7. That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:

  8. Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

  9. Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

  10. ¶ Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.

  11. And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

  12. And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.

  13. The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.

  14. The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.

  15. For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

  16. The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.

  17. But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

  18. I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

  19. But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

  20. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

  21. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

  22. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.

  23. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

  24. They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave the spider's web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.

  25. Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.
