  1. ¶ And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

  2. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

  3. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

  4. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

  5. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

  6. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

  7. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

  8. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

  9. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

  10. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

  11. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

  12. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

  13. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

  14. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

  15. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

  16. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

  17. Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

  18. And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

  19. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

  20. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

  21. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

  22. That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

  23. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

  24. Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

  25. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
