  1. And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD'S house.

  10. For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.

  11. And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.

  12. And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

  13. And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

  14. Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

  15. And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.

  16. So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.

  17. And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

  18. For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.

  19. He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them.

  20. And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the east street,

  21. And said unto them, Hear me, ye Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place.

  22. For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.

  23. Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel.

  24. Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, as ye see with your eyes.

  25. For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this.
