  1. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

  2. Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

  3. Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,

  4. And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.

  5. ¶ Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

  6. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

  7. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.

  8. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.

  9. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

  10. Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.

  11. But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.

  12. And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

  13. But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

  14. Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

  15. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

  16. That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

  17. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

  18. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

  19. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

  20. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

  21. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

  22. Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

  23. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

  24. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

  25. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
