  1. And also by the hand of the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam; and because he killed him.

  2. In the twenty and sixth year of Asa king of Judah began Elah the son of Baasha to reign over Israel in Tirzah, two years.

  3. And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.

  4. And Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.

  5. And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he slew all the house of Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.

  6. Thus did Zimri destroy all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake against Baasha by Jehu the prophet,

  7. For all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, by which they sinned, and by which they made Israel to sin, in provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

  8. He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

  9. He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

  10. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

  11. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

  12. ¶ The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

  13. ¶ The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

  14. ¶ Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

  15. Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

  16. ¶ A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

  17. Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

  18. ¶ Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.

  19. ¶ If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

  20. For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

  21. ¶ For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.

  22. I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

  23. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

  24. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

  25. And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.
