  1. Who is the Almightie, that we should serue him? and what profit should we haue, if we should pray vnto him?

  2. But thou sayest, How should God know? can he iudge through the darke cloude?

  3. The cloudes hide him that he can not see, and he walketh in the circle of heauen.

  4. Shal he that hateth iudgement, gouerne? and wilt thou iudge him wicked that is most iust?

  5. Wilt thou say vnto a King, Thou art wicked? or to princes, Ye are vngodly?

  6. How much lesse to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, and regardeth not the rich, more then the poore? for they be all the worke of his handes.

  7. The Lord cut off all flattering lippes, and the tongue that speaketh proude things:

  8. Which haue saide, With our tongue will we preuaile: our lippes are our owne: who is Lord ouer vs?

  9. They spake against God also, saying, Can God prepare a table in the wildernesse?

  10. Behold, he smote the rocke, that the water gushed out, and the streames ouerflowed: can hee giue bread also? or prepare flesh for his people?

  11. Therefore the Lord heard and was angrie, and the fire was kindled in Iaakob, and also wrath came vpon Israel,

  12. Because they beleeued not in God, and trusted not in his helpe.

  13. Yet they say, The Lord shall not see: neither will the God of Iaakob regard it.

  14. Vnderstande ye vnwise among the people: and ye fooles, when will ye be wise?

  15. Hee that planted the eare, shall hee not heare? or he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

  16. Also they contemned that pleasant land, and beleeued not his worde,

  17. But murmured in their tentes, and hearkened not vnto the voice of the Lord.

  18. Because they rebelled against the wordes of the Lord, and despised the counsell of the most High,

  19. When he humbled their heart with heauines, then they fell downe and there was no helper.

  20. Woe vnto them, that draw iniquitie with cordes of vanitie, and sinne, as with cart ropes:

  21. Which say, Let him make speede: let him hasten his worke, that wee may see it: and let the counsell of the holy one of Israel draw neere and come, that we may knowe it.

  22. Therefore as the flame of fire deuoureth the stubble, and as the chaffe is cosumed of the flame: so their roote shalbe as rottennesse, and their bud shall rise vp like dust, because they haue cast off the Lawe of the Lord of hostes, and contemned the word of the holy one of Israel.

  23. Therefore is the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, and hee hath stretched out his hand vpon them, and hath smitten them that the mountaines did tremble: and their carkases were torne in the middes of the streetes, and for all this his wrath was not turned away, but his hande was stretched out still.

  24. Whome shall he teache knowledge? and whome shall he make to vnderstand the thinges that hee heareth? them that are weyned from the milke, and drawen from the breastes.

  25. For precept must be vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle, and there a litle.
