  1. And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

  2. When they were then gathered together, Pilate said vnto the, Whether will ye that I let loose vnto you Barabbas, or Iesus which is called Christ?

  3. (For he knewe well, that for enuie they had deliuered him.

  4. Also when he was set downe vpon the iudgement seate, his wife sent to him, saying, Haue thou nothing to do with that iust man: for I haue suffered many things this day in a dreame by reason of him.)

  5. But the chiefe Priestes and the Elders had persuaded the people that they shoulde aske Barabbas, and should destroy Iesus.

  6. Then the gouernour answered, and said vnto them, Whether of the twaine will ye that I let loose vnto you? And they said, Barabbas.

  7. Pilate said vnto them, What shall I do then with Iesus, which is called Christ? They all said to him, Let him be crucified.

  8. Then saide the gouernour, But what euill hath he done? Then they cryed the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

  9. When Pilate saw that he auailed nothing, but that more tumult was made, he tooke water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this iust man: looke you to it.

  10. Then answered all the people, and saide, His bloud be on vs, and on our children.

  11. Thus let he Barabbas loose vnto them, and scourged Iesus, and deliuered him to be crucified.

  12. Then there was one named Barabbas, which was bounde with his fellowes, that had made insurrection, who in the insurrection had committed murder.

  13. And the people cried aloude, and began to desire that he woulde doe as he had euer done vnto them.

  14. Then Pilate answered them, and said, Will ye that I let loose vnto you the King of ye Iewes?

  15. For he knewe that the hie Priestes had deliuered him of enuie.

  16. But the high Priestes had moued the people to desire that he would rather deliuer Barabbas vnto them.

  17. And Pilate answered, and said againe vnto them, What will ye then that I doe with him, whom ye call the King of the Iewes?

  18. And they cried againe, Crucifie him.

  19. Then Pilate said vnto them, But what euill hath he done? And they cryed the more feruently, Crucifie him.

  20. So Pilate willing to content the people, loosed them Barabbas, and deliuered Iesus, when he had scourged him, that he might be crucified.

  21. Then all ye multitude cried at once, saying, Away with him, and deliuer vnto vs Barabbas:

  22. Which for a certaine insurrection made in the citie, and murder, was cast in prison.

  23. Then Pilate spake againe to them, willing to let Iesus loose.

  24. But they cried, saying, Crucifie, crucifie him.

  25. And he sayd vnto them the third time, But what euill hath he done? I finde no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
