Edom

Also King Salomon made a nauie of ships in Ezeon-geber, which is beside Eloth, and the brinke of the red Sea, in the land of Edom.

Then the Lord stirred vp an aduersarie vnto Salomon, euen Hadad the Edomite, of the Kings seede, which was in Edom.

For when Dauid was in Edom, and Ioab the captaine of the hoste had smitten all the males in Edom, and was gone vp to bury ye slaine,

(For six moneths did Ioab remaine there, and all Israel, till he had destroyed all the males in Edom)

There was then no King in Edom: the deputie was King.

Then said he, What way shall we goe vp? And he answered, The way of the wildernesse of Edom.

So went the King of Israel and the king of Iudah, and the King of Edom, and when they had compassed the way seuen dayes, they had no water for the hoste, nor for the cattell that followed them.

Then Iehoshaphat saide, The worde of the Lord is with him. Therefore the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat, and the King of Edom went downe to him.

And in the morning whe the meat offring was offred, beholde, there came water by the way of Edom: and the countrey was filled with water.

And when the King of Moab saw that the battel was too sore for him, he tooke with him seuen hudreth men that drew the sword, to break through vnto the King of Edom: but they could not.

In those dayes Edom rebelled from vnder the hand of Iudah, and made a King ouer themselues.

So Edom rebelled from vnder the hand of Iudah vnto this day. then Libnah rebelled at that same time.

Because thou hast smitten Edom, thine heart hath made thee proud: bragge of glory, and tary at home. why doest thou prouoke to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, and Iudah with thee?

And these were the Kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before a King reigned ouer the children of Israel, to wit, Bela the sonne of Beor, and the name of his citie was Dinhabah.

Hadad dyed also, and there were dukes in Edom, duke Timna, duke Aliah, duke Ietheth,

Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these were the dukes of Edom.

And King Dauid did dedicate them vnto the Lord, with the siluer and golde that hee brought from all the nations, from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistims, and from Amalek.

And he put a garison in Edom, and all the Edomites became Dauids seruantes: and the Lord preserued Dauid wheresoeuer he went.

Then went Salomon to Ezion-geber, and to Eloth by the sea side in the lande of Edom.

Then there came that tolde Iehoshaphat, saying, There commeth a great multitude against thee from beyonde the Sea, out of Aram: and beholde, they bee in Hazzon Tamar, which is En-gedi.

But Amaziah would not heare: for it was of God, that he might deliuer them into his had, because they had sought the gods of Edom.

To him that excelleth upon Shushan Eduth, or Michtam. A Psalme of David to teach. O God, thou hast cast vs out, thou hast scattered vs, thou hast bene angry, turne againe vnto vs.

Moab shalbe my wash pot: ouer Edom will I cast out my shoe: Palestina shew thy selfe ioyfull for me.

Who will leade me into the strong citie? who will bring me vnto Edom?
