  1. And he said: I cried out of my affliction to the Lord, and he heard me: I cried out of the belly of hell, and thou hast heard my voice.

  2. The voice of the Lord crieth to the city, and salvation shall be to them that fear thy name: hear O ye tribes, and who shall approve it?

  11. These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have distress. But have confidence. I have overcome the world.

  12. Said: O full of all guile and of all deceit, child of the devil, enemy of all justice, thou ceases not to pervert the right ways of the Lord.

  13. And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee: and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a time. And immediately there fell a mist and darkness upon him: and going about, he sought some one to lead him by the hand.

  14. And when they had ordained to them priests in every church and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, in whom they believed.

  15. Save that the Holy Ghost in every city witnesseth to me, saying: That bands and afflictions wait for me at Jerusalem.

  16. But I fear none of these things, neither do I count my life more precious than myself, so that I may consummate my course and the ministry of the word which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

  17. For I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that shall be revealed in us.

  18. But whilst we are judged, we are chastised by the Lord, that we be not condemned with this world.

  19. For that which is at present momentary and light of our tribulation worketh for us above measure, exceedingly an eternal weight of glory.

  20. That no man should be moved in these tribulations: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.

  21. Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.

  22. And all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

  23. For whom the Lord loveth he chastiseth: and he scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

  24. Persevere under discipline. God dealeth with you as with his sons. For what son is there whom the father doth not correct?

  25. Behold, we account them blessed who have endured. You have heard of the patience of Job and you have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is merciful and compassionate.
