  1. And king Solomon made two hundred golden spears, of the sum of six hundred pieces of gold, which went to every spear:

  9. And he slept with his fathers: and they buried him in the city of David: and Roboam his son reigned in his stead.

  10. And when Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who was in Egypt, (for he was fled thither from Solomon,) heard it, forthwith he returned.

  11. He took counsel with the ancients, who had stood before his father Solomon, while he yet lived, saying: What counsel give you to me, that I may answer the people?

  12. Speak to Roboam the son of Solomon the king of Juda, and to all Israel, in Juda and Benjamin:

  13. And they strengthened the kingdom of Juda, and established Roboam the son of Solomon for three years: for they walked in the ways of David and of Solomon, only three years.

  14. So Sesac king of Egypt departed from Jerusalem, taking away the treasures of the king's house, and he took all with him, and the golden shields that Solomon had made,

  15. And Jeroboam the son of Nabat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up: and rebelled against his lord.

  16. And there were gathered to him vain men, and children of Belial: and they prevailed against Roboam the son of Solomon: for Roboam was unexperienced, and of a fearful heart, and could not resist them.

  17. And there was a great solemnity in Jerusalem, such as had not been in that city since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel.

  18. He set also a graven, and a molten statue in the house of God, of which God had said to David, and to Solomon his son: In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever.

  19. And he spoke to the Levites, by whose instruction all Israel was sanctified to the Lord, saying: Put the ark in the sanctuary of the temple, which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built: for you shall carry it no more: but minister now to the Lord your God, and to his people Israel.

  20. And prepare yourselves by your houses, and families according to your courses, as David king of Israel commanded, and Solomon his son hath written.

  21. The children of the servants of Solomon, the children of Sotai, the children of Sopheret, the children of Pharuda,

  22. All the Nathinites, and the children of the servants of Solomon, three hundred ninety-two.

  23. The children of the servants of Solomon, the children of Sothai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Pharida,

  24. All the Nathinites, and the children of the servants of Solomon, three hundred ninety-two.

  25. These therefore are the chief men of the province, who dwelt in Jerusalem, and in the cities of Juda. And every one dwelt in his possession, in their cities: Israel, the priests, the Levites, the Nathinites, and the children of the servants of Solomon.
