  1. For your husband is your Maker, ADONAI-Tzva'ot is his name. The Holy One of Isra'el is your Redeemer. He will be called the God of all the earth.

  2. For ADONAI has called you back like a wife abandoned and grief-stricken; "A wife married in her youth cannot be rejected," says your God.

  3. I will betroth you to me forever; yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in grace and in compassion;

  4. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, and you will know ADONAI.

  5. Nevertheless, you ask, "Why is this?" Because ADONAI is witness between you and the wife of your youth that you have broken faith with her, though she is your companion, your wife by covenant.

  6. And hasn't he made [them] one [flesh] in order to have spiritual blood-relatives? For what the one [flesh] seeks is a seed from God. Therefore, take heed to your spirit, and don't break faith with the wife of your youth.

  7. "For I hate divorce," says ADONAI the God of Isra'el, "and him who covers his clothing with violence," says ADONAI-Tzva'ot. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and don't break faith.

  8. Wives should submit to their husbands as they do to the Lord;

  9. because the husband is head of the wife, just as the Messiah, as head of the Messianic Community, is himself the one who keeps the body safe.

  10. Just as the Messianic Community submits to the Messiah, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

  11. As for husbands, love your wives, just as the Messiah loved the Messianic Community, indeed, gave himself up on its behalf,

  12. in order to set it apart for God, making it clean through immersion in the mikveh, so to speak,

  13. in order to present the Messianic Community to himself as a bride to be proud of, without a spot, wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and without defect.

  14. This is how husbands ought to love their wives — like their own bodies; for the man who loves his wife is loving himself.

  15. Why, no one ever hated his own flesh! On the contrary, he feeds it well and takes care of it, just as the Messiah does the Messianic Community,

  16. because we are parts of his Body.

  17. “Therefore a man will leave his father and mother and remain with his wife, and the two will become one.”

  18. There is profound truth hidden here, which I say concerns the Messiah and the Messianic Community.

  19. However, the text also applies to each of you individually: let each man love his wife as he does himself, and see that the wife respects her husband.

  20. Wives, subject yourselves to your husbands, as is appropriate in the Lord.

  21. Husbands, love your wives and don’t treat them harshly.
