  1. Now the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against Jehovah exceedingly.

  2. And Jehovah said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

  3. and the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land vomiteth out her inhabitants.

  9. As saith the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

  10. And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself to do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah.

  11. And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not even with you trespasses of your own against Jehovah your God?

  12. And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same king Ahaz.

  13. which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land through the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their filthiness:

  14. Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

  15. How much less one that is abominable and corrupt, A man that drinketh iniquity like water!

  16. The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, Even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.

  17. A sound of terrors is in his ears; In prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

  18. He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, And he is waited for of the sword.

  19. He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

  20. Distress and anguish make him afraid; They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

  21. Because he hath stretched out his hand against God, And behaveth himself proudly against the Almighty;

  22. He runneth upon him with astiffneck, With the thick bosses of his bucklers;

  23. Because he hath covered his face with his fatness, And gathered fat upon his loins;

  24. And he hath dwelt in desolate cities, In houses which no man inhabited, Which were ready to become heaps;

  25. He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, Neither shall their possessions be extended on the earth.
