  1. For wind they sow, and a hurricane they reap, Stalk it hath none--a shoot not yielding grain, If so be it yield--strangers do swallow it up.

  2. Ye have ploughed wickedness, Perversity ye have reaped, Ye have eaten the fruit of lying, For thou hast trusted in thy way, In the abundance of thy might.

  3. Ephraim hath provoked most bitterly, And his blood on himself he leaveth, And his reproach turn back to him doth his Lord!

  4. And I consume them there as a lioness, A beast of the field doth rend them.

  5. And the land hath been for a desolation, Because of its inhabitants, Because of the fruit of their doings.

  6. for from within, out of the heart of men, the evil reasonings do come forth, adulteries, whoredoms, murders,

  7. thefts, covetous desires, wickedness, deceit, arrogance, an evil eye, evil speaking, pride, foolishness;

  8. all these evils do come forth from within, and they defile the man.'

  9. `And having come to himself, he said, How many hirelings of my father have a superabundance of bread, and I here with hunger am perishing!

  10. having risen, I will go on unto my father, and will say to him, Father, I did sin--to the heaven, and before thee,

  11. and no more am I worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hirelings.

  12. `And having risen, he went unto his own father, and he being yet far distant, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and having ran he fell upon his neck and kissed him;

  13. and the son said to him, Father, I did sin--to the heaven, and before thee, and no more am I worthy to be called thy son.

  14. And he said, `Who art thou, Lord?' and the Lord said, `I am Jesus whom thou dost persecute; hard for thee at the pricks to kick;'

  15. because of this, even as through one man the sin did enter into the world, and through the sin the death; and thus to all men the death did pass through, for that all did sin;

  16. for till law sin was in the world: and sin is not reckoned when there is not law;

  17. but the death did reign from Adam till Moses, even upon those not having sinned in the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is a type of him who is coming.

  18. But, not as the offence so also is the free gift; for if by the offence of the one the many did die, much more did the grace of God, and the free gift in grace of the one man Jesus Christ, abound to the many;

  19. and not as through one who did sin is the free gift, for the judgment indeed is of one to condemnation, but the gift is of many offences to a declaration of `Righteous,'

  20. for if by the offence of the one the death did reign through the one, much more those, who the abundance of the grace and of the free gift of the righteousness are receiving, in life shall reign through the one--Jesus Christ.

  21. So, then, as through one offence to all men it is to condemnation, so also through one declaration of `Righteous' it is to all men to justification of life;

  22. for as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were constituted sinners: so also through the obedience of the one, shall the many be constituted righteous.

  23. And law came in, that the offence might abound, and where the sin did abound, the grace did overabound,

  24. that even as the sin did reign in the death, so also the grace may reign, through righteousness, to life age-during, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  25. for when we were in the flesh, the passions of the sins, that are through the law, were working in our members, to bear fruit to the death;
