  1. unto your shame I speak: so there is not among you one wise man, not even one, who shall be able to discern in the midst of his brethren!

  2. but brother with brother doth go to be judged, and this before unbelievers!

  3. Already, indeed, then, there is altogether a fault among you, that ye have judgments with one another; wherefore do ye not rather suffer injustice? wherefore be ye not rather defrauded?

  4. but ye--ye do injustice, and ye defraud, and these--brethren!

  5. And concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffeth up, but love buildeth up;

  6. and if any one doth think to know anything, he hath not yet known anything according as it behoveth him to know;

  7. and if any one doth love God, this one hath been known by Him.

  8. Concerning the eating then of the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one;

  9. for even if there are those called gods, whether in heaven, whether upon earth--as there are gods many and lords many--

  10. yet to us is one God, the Father, of whom are the all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are the all things, and we through Him;

  11. but not in all men is the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, till now, as a thing sacrificed to an idol do eat it , and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

  12. But victuals do not commend us to God, for neither if we may eat are we in advance; nor if we may not eat, are we behind;

  13. but see, lest this privilege of yours may become a stumbling-block to the infirm,

  14. for if any one may see thee that hast knowledge in an idol's temple reclining at meat--shall not his conscience--he being infirm--be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols,

  15. and the brother who is infirm shall perish by thy knowledge, because of whom Christ died?

  16. and thus sinning in regard to the brethren, and smiting their weak conscience--in regard to Christ ye sin;

  17. wherefore, if victuals cause my brother to stumble, I may eat no flesh--to the age--that my brother I may not cause to stumble.

  18. Brethren, if a man also may be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of meekness, considering thyself--lest thou also may be tempted;

  19. of one another the burdens bear ye, and so fill up the law of the Christ,

  20. and if any one do not obey our word through the letter, this one note ye, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed,

  21. and as an enemy count him not, but admonish ye him as a brother;

  22. And this same also--all diligence having brought in besides, superadd in your faith the worthiness, and in the worthiness the knowledge,

  23. and in the knowledge the temperance, and in the temperance the endurance, and in the endurance the piety,

  24. and in the piety the brotherly kindness, and in the brotherly kindness the love;

  25. he who is saying, in the light he is, and his brother is hating, in the darkness he is till now;
