  1. I speak to your shame. Is it so that there is not among you any one wise man that is able to judge between his brethren?

  2. But brother goeth to law with brother: and that before unbelievers.

  3. Already indeed there is plainly a fault among you, that you have law suits one with another. Why do you not rather take wrong? Why do you not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

  4. But you do wrong and defraud: and that to your brethren.

  5. Now concerning those things that are sacrificed to idols: we know we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up: but charity edifieth.

  6. And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he hath not yet known as he ought to know.

  7. But if any man love God, the same is known by him.

  8. But as for the meats that are sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world and that there is no God but one.

  9. For although there be that are called gods, either in heaven or on earth (for there be gods many and lords many):

  10. Yet to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him: and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

  11. But there is not knowledge in every one. For some until this present, with conscience of the idol, eat as a thing sacrificed to an idol: and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

  12. But meat doth not commend us to God. For neither, if we eat, shall we have the more: nor, if we eat not, shall we have the less.

  13. But take heed lest perhaps this your liberty become a stumblingblock to the weak.

  14. For if a man see him that hath knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not his conscience, being weak, be emboldened to eat those things which are sacrificed to idols?

  15. And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ hath died?

  16. Now when you sin thus against the brethren and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

  17. Wherefore, if meat scandalize my brother, I will never eat flesh, lest I should scandalize my brother.

  18. Brethren, and if a man be overtaken in any fault, you, who are spiritual, instruct such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

  19. Bear ye one another's burdens: and so you shall fulfil the law of Christ.

  20. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.

  21. Yet do not esteem him as an enemy but admonish him as a brother.

  22. And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue: And in virtue, knowledge:

  23. And in knowledge, abstinence: and in abstinence, patience: and in patience, godliness:

  24. And in godliness, love of brotherhood: and in love of brotherhood, charity.

  25. He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother is in darkness even until now.
