  1. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

  2. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

  3. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

  4. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

  5. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

  6. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

  7. And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

  8. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

  9. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

  10. But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.

  11. Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

  12. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

  13. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

  14. The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

  15. The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

  16. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

  17. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

  18. ¶ And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

  19. And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?

  20. And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

  21. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

  22. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

  23. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

  24. ¶ And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

  25. Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
