  1. And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

  2. We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

  3. So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

  4. ¶ Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

  6. ¶ In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

  7. But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

  8. Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

  9. Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

  10. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

  11. Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

  12. ¶ Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

  13. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

  14. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

  15. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

  16. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

  17. That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

  18. ¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

  19. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

  20. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

  21. And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

  22. Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;

  23. That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

  24. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

  25. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
