  1. And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

  2. Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

  3. And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

  4. And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

  5. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

  11. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

  12. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

  13. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

  14. ¶ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

  15. ¶ When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

  16. He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

  17. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

  18. And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

  19. Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

  20. And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

  21. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

  22. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

  23. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

  24. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

  25. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
