  1. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

  2. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

  11. And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.

  12. ¶ And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

  13. But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

  14. And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

  15. ¶ And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

  16. ¶ After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

  17. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

  18. And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

  19. And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

  20. And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.

  21. And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

  22. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

  23. The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

  24. But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

  25. And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:
