  1. ¶ Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

  2. But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

  3. But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

  4. Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

  5. ¶ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

  6. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

  7. Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

  8. And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.

  9. And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

  10. Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.

  11. But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

  12. But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

  13. And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

  14. ¶ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

  15. Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

  16. And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

  17. ¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

  18. And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

  19. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

  20. Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

  21. Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

  22. Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

  23. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

  24. ¶ Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

  25. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
