  12. Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

  13. Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

  14. And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.

  15. Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

  16. Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.

  17. Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

  19. For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

  20. I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.

  21. ¶ Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

  22. I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

  23. As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

  24. For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

  25. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
