The Life of Jesus
The eternal Son of God enters history: born in Bethlehem, baptized in the Jordan, crucified at Golgotha, raised on the third day.
- Matthew 22:23c. AD 33
¶ The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
- Matthew 22:24c. AD 33
Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
- Matthew 22:25c. AD 33
Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
- Matthew 22:26c. AD 33
Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
- Matthew 22:27c. AD 33
And last of all the woman died also.
- Matthew 22:28c. AD 33
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
- Matthew 22:29c. AD 33
Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
- Matthew 22:30c. AD 33
For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
- Matthew 22:31c. AD 33
But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
- Matthew 22:32c. AD 33
I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
- Matthew 22:33c. AD 33
And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
- Matthew 22:34c. AD 33
¶ But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
- Matthew 22:35c. AD 33
Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
- Matthew 22:36c. AD 33
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
- Matthew 22:37c. AD 33
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
- Matthew 22:38c. AD 33
This is the first and great commandment.
- Matthew 22:39c. AD 33
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
- Matthew 22:40c. AD 33
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
- Matthew 22:41c. AD 33
¶ While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
- Matthew 22:42c. AD 33
Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
- Matthew 22:43c. AD 33
He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
- Matthew 22:44c. AD 33
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
- Matthew 22:45c. AD 33
If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
- Matthew 22:46c. AD 33
And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
- Matthew 23:1c. AD 33
¶ Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
