Slanderers have been in thee to shed blood, and they have eaten upon the mountains in thee, they have committed wickedness in the midst of thee.
Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake:
For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: He hath a devil.
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children.
But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment.
For from the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies.
And the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death.
And they found not, whereas many false witnesses had come in. And last of all there came two false witnesses:
And they said: This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God and after three days to rebuild it.
And the chief priests accused him in many things.
And the soldiers also asked him, saying: And what shall we do? And he said to them: Do violence to no man, neither calumniate any man; and be content with your pay.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth that which is evil. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Then they suborned men to say they had heard him speak words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.
Whom Jason hath received. And these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.
And Paul being called for, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying: Whereas, through thee we live in much peace and many things are rectified by thy providence,
We have found this to be a pestilent man and raising seditions among all the Jews throughout the world: and author of the sedition of the sect of the Nazarenes.
Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness: full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity: whisperers,
Detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
And not rather (as we are slandered and as some affirm that we say) let us do evil that there may come good? Whose damnation is just.
We are blasphemed: and we entreat. We are made as the refuse of this world, the offscouring of all, even until now.
Nor the effeminate nor liers with mankind nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards nor railers nor extortioners shall possess the kingdom of God.
By honour and dishonour: by evil report and good report: as deceivers and yet true: as unknown and yet known:
For I fear lest perhaps, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found by you such as you would not. Lest perhaps contentions, envyings, animosities, dissensions, detractions, whisperings, swellings, seditions, be among you.
Let all bitterness and anger and indignation and clamour and blasphemy be put away from you, with all malice.
The women in like manner: chaste, not slanderers, but sober, faithful in all things.
