  1. And the devil said to him: If thou be the Son of God, say to this stone that it be made bread.

  2. And Jesus answered him: is written that Man liveth not by bread alone, but by every word of God.

  12. And they by the way side are they that hear: then the devil cometh and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved.

  13. And he said to them: I saw Satan like lightning falling from heaven.

  14. But some of them said: He casteth out devils by Beelzebub, the prince of devils.

  15. And if Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? Because you say that through Beelzebub I cast out devils.

  16. When a strong man armed keepeth his court, those things are in peace which he possesseth.

  17. But if a stronger than he come upon him and overcome him, he will take away all his armour wherein he trusted and will distribute his spoils.

  18. And ought not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

  19. And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.

  20. When I was daily with you in the temple, you did not stretch forth your hands against me: but this is your hour and the power of darkness.
