  1. Then the LORD said to Abram, “Leave your country, your kindred, and your father’s household, and go to the land I will show you.

  2. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

  3. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”

  4. After Lot had departed, the LORD said to Abram, “Now lift up your eyes from the place where you are, and look to the north and south and east and west,

  5. for all the land that you see, I will give to you and your offspring forever.

  6. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if one could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted.

  7. Get up and walk around the land, through its length and breadth, for I will give it to you.”

  8. The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt. Settle in the land where I tell you.

  9. Stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.

  10. I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed,

  11. because Abraham listened to My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”

  12. And Jacob had a dream about a ladder that rested on the earth with its top reaching up to heaven, and God’s angels were going up and down the ladder.

  13. And there at the top the LORD was standing and saying, “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you now lie.

  14. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and east and north and south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

  15. Look, I am with you, and I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

  16. After Jacob had returned from Paddan-aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him.

  17. And God said to him, “Though your name is Jacob, you will no longer be called Jacob. Instead, your name will be Israel.” So God named him Israel.

  18. And God told him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation—even a company of nations—shall come from you, and kings shall descend from you.

  19. The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.”

  20. ‘You have seen for yourselves what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.

  21. Now if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you will be My treasured possession out of all the nations—for the whole earth is Mine.

  22. And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to speak to the Israelites.”

  23. Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar.

  24. Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people, who replied, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.”

  25. So Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
